Resting high above the trees, in Thorpeness, Suffolk, England, is a fairytale-like home, known as the House in the Clouds. Built in 1923, this space was originally erected to serve as the Thorpeness village water tower. The first structure was so appalling when seen along the skyline, that architect Glencairne Stuart Ogilvie, was hired to disguise it as a house - and he did just that. From then on, this cottage-like house could be seen perched within the trees, 70 feet off the ground. Originally, the house was built with seven rooms, and two reception rooms. Now, there are five bedrooms, three bathrooms, as well as a drawing room, dining room and most visitor’s favourite space, the ‘room at the top’, which has incredible views of Suffolk, and surrounding areas. The ‘room at the top’ was created when the tank was removed from the water tower in 1979. This was done by unbolting 4 foot by 4 foot square sections and lowering them to the ground with a pulley.
